President Museveni has confirmed his attendance for the muchly anticipated Bugisu Youth Symposium on September 12, 2024, where he will deliver a monumental public lecture on wealth creation, targeting mostly youths in the Elgon region. The event will be held at Mbale SS Playground, in Mbale City.
The confirmation was made by the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the President, Ms Gloria Asio Omaswa in a June 20 letter addressed to Chief Muzzukulu and Head of ONC, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo.
“Reference is made to your letter dated 20th May 2024, in which you invited H.E. the President, to preside over the Bugisu Youth Symposium at Mbale Senior Secondary School. This is to inform you that H.E. the President is scheduled to preside over the Youth Symposium on the 12th of September, 2024,” reads in part Asio’s letter.
“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to communicate this information to you,” adds the letter, also copied to the Head of Protocol, SPA Literary Affairs, and Mr Buyela Christopher the Regional Coordinator at Office of the National Chairman in Bugisu Sub-Region.
The organizers say the public lecture on wealth creation which will be delivered by the President promises to be a defining moment for the youths of Bugisu and the broader eastern region with high anticipation among the youth for the much-awaited opportunity has arrived.
Mr Buyela who is at the forefront of this function says the event is more than a lecture; it is a lifetime opportunity for the Bazukulu (grandchildren) of Bugisu to engage directly with President Museveni, a leader whose vision and policies have shaped modern Uganda.
The Bugisu sub-region, renowned for its agricultural prowess, stands as a beacon of productivity and cultural richness, boasting some of the most fertile soils in Uganda, which make it an agricultural heartland. Its principal cash crop, Arabica coffee, is internationally acclaimed for its superior quality, placing Bugisu on the global coffee map.
“Moreover, the region is not just rich in natural resources but also in cultural heritage. The Bamasaba people, known for their unique and vibrant culture, celebrate the Imbalu initiation ceremony, a rite that draws visitors from around the globe,” Buyela says, adding that this cultural festivity not only preserves the traditions of the Bamasaba but also promotes tourism and cultural exchange, adding another layer to the socio-economic fabric of Bugisu.
Buyela also underscores that this public lecture by President Museveni is a golden opportunity for Bugisu’s youth to gain insights into wealth creation directly from a leader who has long championed economic empowerment and development.
“The event is expected to address various aspects of economic growth, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, tailored specifically to the unique strengths and potentials of the Bugisu sub-region,” he emphasizes.
And as the region prepares to welcome President Museveni, Byela calls upon all residents, especially the youth to attend this wonderful symposium and participate actively.
“This is not just a lecture; it is a platform for learning, inspiration, and direct engagement with the highest office in the land. It is a moment for the youth to glean wisdom, ask pertinent questions, and envision their role in the future development of Bugisu and Uganda at large.”
