President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni attending the EAC-SADC joint summit in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, which focuses on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Museveni’s earlier proposal for this summit was that H.E. Tshisekedi should speak directly to those who are in conflict with him, as this impacts all of us. There is no other forum better suited to address this issue than this summit. I therefore hope for a fruitful discussion.

At the Joint EAC-SADC Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, we called for cessation of hostilities in Eastern DRC, immediate ceasefire and restoration of essential utilities and supply lines for food and other essential commodities to ensure humanitarian support and peaceful resolution of conflict.

I welcome the resolutions from this platform that had an input from all parties and as well reiterate that the conflicting parties should actively engage in meaningful negotiations for the well being of the common people of DRC.

Museveni congratulates Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Government and People of the United Republic for hosting us.
