Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) has announced a reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel for November 2024, compared to October 2024.
According to Ewura, the price of petrol at the Dar es Salaam port has decreased from 3,011 Tanzanian Shillings per liter in October to Sh2,943 in November.
At the Tanga port, the price dropped from Sh3,016 to Sh2,948, while in Mtwara, the price saw a slight reduction from Sh3,016 to Sh3,015 per liter.
For diesel, the retail price per liter in Dar es Salaam has decreased from Sh2,846 to Sh2,844. In Tanga, the price fell fromSh2,859 to Sh2,855, while in Mtwara, it increased slightly from Sh2,862 to Sh2,916 per liter.
Dr James A. Mwainyekule, Director-General of Ewura, explained that the price reduction is a result of changes in international oil prices, as well as fluctuations in importation costs and foreign exchange rates.
He noted that, compared to September 2024 the global price of petrol increased by 1.56 percent, while the price of diesel rose by 4.99 percent.
The cost of importing fuel (referred to as premiums) has also fluctuated, with diesel importation costs rising by 14.48 percent, which may impact domestic fuel prices.
Ewura has urged fuel dealers to ensure that their prices do not exceed the maximum price limits set by the authority.
The regulator also emphasized the importance of displaying clear and visible price signs at fuel stations to ensure fair competition and protect consumer interests.
