The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has embarked on a massive city beautification initiative, urging property owners in Kampala Central Division to enhance the looks of their buildings and surroundings.
The exercise, officially launched today by the Mayor of Central Division, His Worship Salim Uhuru, is part of the preparations for the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit.

The initiative kicked off with property owners on Kampala Road and Entebbe Road taking the lead in painting their houses and improving frontages, aligning with a notice issued by the KCCA.
The goal is to transform the city into a vibrant and visually appealing hub ahead of the prestigious NAM summit.
During the launch, Uhuru emphasized the importance of this beautification exercise. He urged property owners to seize the opportunity to enhance the smartness of the city by repainting buildings, fixing walkways, and addressing maintenance issues like manholes.
Uhuru expressed gratitude to Property Services for being the first property owner to embrace the initiative. He called upon other property owners in Kampala Central Division and Makindye Division to follow suit. He emphasized that during this period, no permission from KCCA would be required for painting activities.
“This is a golden opportunity for property owners to contribute to the transformation of our city. Let’s make Kampala shine as we welcome the world for the NAM summit,” Mayor Salim Uhuru declared during the launch.
Property owners are urged to not only paint their buildings but also focus on fixing walkways, manholes, and ensuring the overall cleanliness of their properties.
“We need to have our buildings improved by Decemeber 15, failure to comply with the set guidelines by the deadline may result in the closure of buildings,” Uhuru said.
The KCCA’s initiative is not only a visual enhancement for the NAM summit but also aims to instill a sense of pride and community responsibility among the residents of Kampala.
Central Division Town Clerk Dennis Omodi, said as the city undergoes this transformation, all eyes are on the collective effort to present Kampala as a vibrant and well-maintained destination for the upcoming international event.
