Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua faced another setback as the High Court refused to issue interim orders to halt Friday’s public participation on his impeachment motion. The National Assembly’s exercise will proceed as planned, allowing the public to voice their opinions on the matter.
Just hours before the countrywide public participation over the Deputy President’s impeachment motion, Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia conducted a mini-version of the exercise in his constituency.

Kaguchia is among the MPs who did not sign the impeachment motion tabled in the National Assembly.
“Mtoto akifanya makosa, anapigwa kama anarudishwa kwa nyumba. Huchapi motto ukimfukuza,” the MP said.

“Kama makanga ni mbaya, basi dereva ni mbaya. Tulichagua Ruto juu ya Gachagua, na kama Gachagua ni mbaya, basi wote ni wabaya,” added a local resident.
As Mukurweini residents voiced their opinions on the DP’s impeachment, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri refused to honour a summons by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over allegations that she planned to hire goons to disrupt the public participation exercise in Kerugoya.
She dismissed the allegations of planning disruptions as politically motivated.
“Madai hayo hayana msingi na ni ya kisiasa,” said Njeri.
Njeri, an outspoken legislator, claimed she is among the DP’s allies being targeted by the State for refusing to follow directives on legislative matters.
“KRA officers have backdated file returns; they have sent auditors to our offices…” she added.
Meanwhile, DP Gachagua continues to fight back, but his attempt to halt Friday’s public participation exercise failed.
The High Court declined to issue interim orders, scheduling the hearing for October 9, 2024.
The application, filed by Fredrick Kiberi, sought to halt the exercise, arguing that public participation should be held at the ward level across the country’s 1,450 wards, rather than at the constituency level.
