The streets of Kampala City were Thursday treated to a historic event as President Museveni’s Office of the National Chairman (ONC-NRM), under the leadership of SPA/PA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, hosted the first-ever Street Futari Dinner in the capital.
The event under the theme “Abaavu Tweyambe”, drew thousands of Bazzukulu from all walks of life and across different political affiliations, including supporters of the Bobi Wine-led National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) led by First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in a remarkable display of unity and communal spirit.
The event took place along Buganda Road, stretching from Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) all the way to Watoto Church / Senana Supermarket, formerly (KPC), transforming the area into a hub of spiritual reflection, brotherhood, and charity.
With beautifully arranged tables and an atmosphere filled with prayerful anticipation, the initiative which aimed at fostering togetherness, compassion, and support for those in need during the holy month of Ramadan started attracting bazzukulu at around 3pm in the afternoon.
As the clock struck 7pm, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, fondly known as Museveni’s Chief Muzzukulu, took centre stage to officially launch the dinner which was highly anticipated.
Leading by example, Hajjat personally served the Bazzukulu with fruits, juice, and pilau to break their fast, a gesture that reinforced the event’s message of generosity and care for the less privileged (Abaavu Tweyambe).
Hajjat Namyalo later addressed the gathering, expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming turnout at the inaugural Iftar dinner. “I am truly overwhelmed to see so many Bazzukulu come together, not just for a meal, but to strengthen our unity and faith,” she stated.
” Although some were stopped from coming for people who serve their political interests, you who came are enough to prove them wrong,” Hajjat added.
The ONC boss further urged the Bazzukulu to seize opportunities that drive socioeconomic transformation through the various government wealth creation programmes established by Jajja W’abazukkulu President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Furthermore, Hajjat Namyalo expressed deep appreciation for President Musevni’s continued support for the Muslim community. She hailed the establishment of Salaam Bank as a major step towards economic empowerment and thanked the President for allowing Muslims to hold this unprecedented Street Iftar in the heart of the capital.
She described the gesture as a symbol of harmony and a testament to the President’s commitment to inclusivity.
However, she noted that some individuals who interact with the President often mislead him instead of advocating for the ordinary Ugandan (okusakira omuntu wawansi).
She urged the Muslim community to rally behind President Museveni in the upcoming elections, emphasizing his dedication to their welfare.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Erias Kigozi, the Wakiso District Kadhi, also praised the President, calling him a hero, patriot, and visionary leader.
He acknowledged Museveni’s efforts in securing Muslim property rights, appointing Muslims to key government positions, and creating opportunities for economic growth through initiatives like Salaam Bank.
“We thank you for being a leader who thought of us and made it possible to dedicate an entire street to this historic Iftar,” he said.
He further lauded the government for protecting Muslim property and reappointing Muslim leaders like Hajjat Rukia Nakadama, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda to the Cabinet and Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo to steer the Office of the National Chairman.
“Ramadan teaches us about patience and sacrifice, but beyond this holy month, we must translate these lessons into action. Our government has put in place programs such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM), to uplift livelihoods, let us take advantage of them,” she urged.
The event also featured inspirational preachings, Quran recitations, and Mataali performances, adding to the spiritual depth of the occasion. Many attendees expressed their gratitude, lauding the ONC’s initiative as a groundbreaking move that fosters inclusivity and communal growth.
Beyond the spiritual aspect, the event proved to be a game-changer in NRM’s re-engagement efforts, particularly in Kampala, where the opposition has historically had strong support.
Many attendees, including opposition-leaning youths, openly expressed their appreciation for the initiative, with some stating that they were reconsidering their political stance.
“NRM is showing that it cares for us. If this is what they stand for, then maybe we need to listen more,” Hassan Kirya, an attendee who left with a bucket full of Pilau said excitedly.
The Kampala Street Futari marked the beginning of what many hope will become an annual tradition, bringing together people from different backgrounds to celebrate faith, unity, and shared prosperity.
The Iftar dinner also proved to be a major milestone in ONC’s grassroots mobilization and further cementing Hajjat Namyalo’s growing influence as President Museveni’s top political mobilizer ahead of the 2026 elections.
