The Namibian government has denied a visa extension request by the king of the Buganda of Uganda, King Muwenda Mutebi II Ronald.
This was confirmed by Erastus Hailwa, the foreign relations officer in the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation yesterday.
Mutebi II has reportedly been receiving treatment at Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre at Outjo since April for an undisclosed condition.
Hailwa said King Mutebi II requested an extension earlier this month, which the government has declined.
“This is normal practice for any foreign national who stayed for 90 days in a country per year to return to their country of origin. There is nothing controversial about that.
“The Immigration Control Act of 1993 in terms of Section 9 is clear as it provides for a maximum stay of 90 days for non-Namibians,” Hailwa said.
