NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has called on university students to make the most of their time and opportunities to prepare for careers in public service.
Speaking at a recent event, he emphasized that proactive engagement and dedication during their academic years will ease their transition into governmental roles.
SG Todwong who was officiating at the NRM Makerere chapter handover ceremony at Makerere University said students are usually obstructed from pursuing their goals due to the freedoms they enjoy during their stay at the University.
“Do not be swayed away by the freedoms that come with the free time at the University. With the freedoms available, you may fail to complete your studies,” Todwong said, urging them to focus on their studies and improve themselves through mentorship programs like ideological retreats.
“I implore you always to seek advice and guidance from the senior leaders if you are to be groomed into responsible leaders in future,” SG made a plea to the NRM youth leaders.
Todwong challenged the students to draw inspiration from the conduct of President Yoweri Museveni in the way he handles the affairs of the country.
Like President Museveni, Todwong told the young people to approach politics and leadership with honesty and patience to avoid mistakes.
The head of the secretariat commended the Charter leadership for being organized and mobilizing fellow students to contribute to the development of the NRM party.
The secretariat shall continue to enforce your activities to recruit more students into the ruling party.
The outgoing NRM Chapter Chairman Robert Ankunda expressed gratitude to the secretariat for always empowering the students who subscribe to the ruling party.
“You have never forsaken us and I believe the assistance and support you have given us shall also be extended to the incoming team,” Ankunda said.
The ceremony was also attended by the Director of External Affairs Counsel Awich Pollar, Kampala Central Mayor Salim Uhuru, and NRM patron at Makerere University Dr Eria Hisali among other leaders.
