Members of Parliament praised Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja for receiving the prestigious Global Power Women Award in New York, USA.
The Global Women Leadership Award, presented by the UK-based Centre of Economic and Leadership Development, was given during the 2024 Global Power Women Conference at the University of New York City on September 26, 2024.
While presenting the award on the Floor of Parliament during plenary on Tuesday, 01 October 2024, Nabbanja said she is humbled for being recognised as one of the inspirational leaders in the world.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank Parliament for the support and also thank the President for appointing me to this position and other various positions in my career,” Nabbanja said.
The Global Power Women Award is presented to distinguished women who have made significant impacts in various fields, including culture and gender equality, environmental stewardship and social justice. The award aims to celebrate and empower women who are making a difference in their respective communities and industries.
MPs paid glowing tribute to Nabbanja for the award with Tororo District Woman Representative, Hon. Sarah Opendi thanking her for putting Uganda on the global map.
“I want to thank you for the great work you are doing for this country and encourage you to continue serving humanity with distinction. I also want to thank you for the open-door policy in your office; when you get to her office, she is always available,” Opendi said.
Hon. Xavier Kyooma (Ibanda North County) said Nabbanja’s global award shapes Uganda’s democratic rankings.
“The fact that she was recognised among the few is not only an achievement for her but the country as well and this elevates us in terms of political ranking and democracy,” he said.
The State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs (Veteran Affairs), Hon Huda Oleru said Nabbanja’s recognition is a testament to Uganda’s hardworking women.
“You have shown your capacity to work, not only for Uganda but the whole world. You have raised the flag of women high and showed to the world that women of Uganda can work,” she said.
