Rusizi Stadium – Paul Kagame, the presidential candidate of the RPF-led coalition, addressed thousands of enthusiastic residents from Rusizi District and nearby Nyamasheke District. The crowd’s energy surged as he outlined his vision for a united and prosperous future.
Kagame highlighted the crucial role of the youth in continuing to build the country on the foundation of past achievements while also safeguarding it.
The vibrant event featured performances from the Abasaamyi dance troop from Nkombo island, energizing the crowd with electoral campaign songs. In the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections on July 14-15, Kagame faces competition from former lawmaker Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana.
In his speech, Kagame reflected on Rwanda’s progress since the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, emphasizing the unity brought by the RPF among all Rwandans and political parties. He underscored the importance of the youth in driving development and protecting the nation, urging them to build unity, foster development, and uphold democracy.
Kagame expressed confidence that the electorate would make the right choice on election day, as they have in the past. Jean Paul Ndamwemera, a local businessman, shared his success story of transforming a family coffee business into a lucrative venture with significant socio-economic impact, thanks to the RPF’s leadership. His achievements include building a school for 250 students and exporting award-winning coffee to Europe.
The RPF’s manifesto for the next five years includes significant development projects for Rusizi District, such as the construction of three ports on Lake Kivu, improving road infrastructure, advancing technology adoption, positioning Rwanda as an investment and financial hub, increasing tourism and mineral revenues and enhancing green financing initiatives.
