Two G4S security guards are under investigation for allegedly conspiring to rob over UGX 1 billion during a cash transit operation in Kampala.
The incident, reported on November 19, 2024, involved the guards diverting a bullion van, registration number UAJ 199T, during a routine transfer of funds from Lubowa to Nakasero. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, along with two rifles left behind.
“The stolen cash amounted to One Billion, Sixty-Nine Million, Four Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ugandan Shillings (UGX 1,069,420,000) and USD 14,474,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Police swiftly commenced investigations, leading to the arrest of a suspect, Otim Ambrose Richard, in Kwania District. He was found in possession of UGX 117 million, believed to be part of the stolen funds.
“Investigations are ongoing and more details will be shared as soon as they are available,” ASP Owoyesigyire confirmed. “We are committed to recovering the remaining money and bringing all culprits to justice.”
The search for additional suspects and the remaining stolen funds continues as police intensify efforts to resolve the case.
