U.S. Embassy Kampala advises U.S. citizens that the increase in conflict inside the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may impact security in the areas along the border in Uganda, increasing the risk to visitors in the region.
U.S. citizens are advised to exercise increased caution in Western Districts along the border with DRC.

U.S. citizens should:
- Remain alert and avoid large public gathering places.
- Keep a low profile.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
