Aspiring Central Region Youth Member of Parliament, Begira Samuel, has called on Ugandan youths to embrace agriculture as a patriotic mission, saying it remains one of the most powerful tools for economic liberation and national development.
He made the remarks during an agricultural exhibition held last week in Kampala.

Begira, who has positioned himself as a champion of youth empowerment, emphasized that agriculture is not only a source of income but also a unifying force that can rally young people towards building a stronger and self-reliant nation.
“I strongly believe that agriculture binds youth in a patriotic mission,” he said.

The exhibition which attracted hundreds of youth groups, showcased various innovative agricultural technologies and provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to display their products.
It also saw Begira donate agricultural tools including knapsack sprayers to youth groups from across the Central Region as part of his ongoing effort to promote agribusiness among the youth.
Begira noted that equipping young people with the right tools and knowledge in agriculture was crucial in fighting unemployment and poverty.
“By training youth and empowering them, we are defeating poverty together, and building a nation that endures,” he stressed, highlighting the need for a mindset change among the youth towards agriculture.
He further challenged youth to view agriculture beyond subsistence, urging them to tap into value addition, processing, and agribusiness ventures.
“We must move away from the old thinking of agriculture as a poor man’s activity. It is now a global business opportunity and Uganda’s youth must take the lead,” Begira said.
During the event, participants commended Begira for his commitment to youth causes, saying his practical approach towards agricultural empowerment was timely. Several youth leaders vowed to champion agriculture back in their communities, inspired by Begira’s message of self-reliance.
Begira further promised to continue supporting youth initiatives in agriculture and other sectors if given the mandate in 2026.
“Together, we can build a Uganda where every young person is empowered, productive, and proud to contribute to national growth,” he said.
