1994 Genocide Hutu Refugees In DR Congo Face Forced Return Ry Rwanda

Hutu refugees sit silently on a bus in Goma, DRC, clutching sacks and children, as they are forcibly returned to Rwanda under the watch of Kagame-backed forces. Many fear what awaits them back home: prison, abuse, or disappearance

Since 1994, thousands of Rwandan Hutu refugees have lived in eastern Congo after fleeing Kagame’s military takeover.

Today, those same refugees are being killed, harassed, and forcibly repatriated under Kagame-backed rebel control in Goma and North Kivu. As voices like PatrickRugaba warn, this is no longer just a refugee issue, it’s a human crisis

They ran for their lives in 1994. Now they’re being hunted down and forced back, while the world watches in silence.

From Genocide Survivors to Targets Again

After the genocide, Hutu civilians, fearing revenge killings, fled to Congo in massive numbers.

But for the Kagame regime, their presence has been used as a long-time excuse to justify invasions, assassinations, and war.

Now, in 2025, things have escalated:

  • M23 rebels (Rwanda-backed) have taken over parts of Goma and the surrounding region
  • Hutu refugees are being labeled as FDLR, even when they’re just families and farmers
  • Some are being forced onto trucks and sent back to Rwanda against their will

If this refugee crisis means nothing to you, then YOU are the problem.” @PatrickRugaba, Rwandan activist and author of SURVIVORS UNCENSORED

The Testimony They Don’t Want You to Read:

Simon Pierre Gahamanyi (via X) dropped a bold truth that cuts through global silence:

The West lied to the world that the genocide in 1994 was carried out by the Hutu, forgetting that monsters never change, but instead, commit similar genocidal crimes over and over. Now the universe is exposing their lies!

He continues:

For four years of war in Congo, has anybody heard about the Hutu hunting down and killing the Tutsi? How many times did you read about how M23 massacred the Hutu, like the Kishishe massacre?

Today, 31 years since the genocide, the same people the UN and the West told us were the heroes… are still killing. But this time, it’s Hutu civilians, and no one wants to talk.

What did the people of Congo do to deserve this? Why are Hutus being erased, while the killers are protected as peacekeepers?

What This Testimony Reveals:

  • The narrative of 1994 has been weaponized to silence Hutu voices
  • M23, backed by Kagame, continues to commit ethnic killings
  • The West and UN are still praising the same group, while turning away from the ongoing massacres
  • The goal? Paint Hutus as permanent “monsters” so no one will defend them

“It’s a big plot… and has been their project for three decades.” Gahamanyi

The Heartbreaking Reality

  • Infants are being called genocidaires.
  • Mothers are disappearing.
  • ID cards are being burned on TV.
  • Villagers are told, “You are not Congolese, go back to Rwanda.”

Meanwhile, those being deported know exactly what awaits them:

  • Disappearance
  • Jail without trial
  • Public humiliation
  • Or worse

 The World is Silent Again

In 1994, the world watched the Rwandan genocide happen. Today, the world is watching Kagame repeat history, only this time, it’s slow, quiet, and dressed as “security operations.”

But the victims are still the same Hutus innocent people, forgotten and unwanted

If Kagame wipes out these refugees, he won’t stop. He’ll come for you next.”Rugaba Patrick

This isn’t just a DRC issue. It’s a Pan-African issue. It’s a warning to every refugee, every exile, every freedom-seeking African.

When babies are called genocidaires and women are treated like criminals, silence is complicity. Kagame’s regime has ruled by fear long enough. The time to speak is now
