Now, in 2025, things have escalated:
- M23 rebels (Rwanda-backed) have taken over parts of Goma and the surrounding region
- Hutu refugees are being labeled as FDLR, even when they’re just families and farmers
- Some are being forced onto trucks and sent back to Rwanda against their will
