The Ruparelia family, led by renowned businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has announced that the cremation of their beloved son, Rajiv Ruparelia, will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 2:30 PM at the Hindu Crematorium in Lugogo, Kampala.
In a solemn message released Saturday evening, the family confirmed Rajiv’s untimely passing, which resulted from a fatal car accident on the morning of Saturday, May 3, 2025, along the Munyonyo-Entebbe Expressway, near the Busabala flyover.

“It is with a deep and heavy heart that we announce the passing of our son Rajiv Ruparelia early this morning. Cremation will be held at the Hindu crematorium in Lugogo at 2.30 pm, Tuesday, 6th May 2025,” the family’s statement read.

They also noted that a vigil is currently underway at the family residence in Kololo, while requesting the public and media to honour their need for privacy during this difficult time.
“The family asks that their privacy be respected during this tough and trying time. Om Shanti.”the statement added.

Meanwhile, Rajiv’s sister, Meera Ruparelia Kotecha, who resides in Dubai, arrived in Kampala over the weekend, accompanied by her husband Ravi Kotecha, to be with the grieving family.
The couple, who share twin children, had a grand wedding ceremony in London, uniting two well-known business families from the Asian diaspora.
At just 35, Rajiv was the only publicly known son of Dr. Sudhir and Jyotsna Ruparelia, and a central figure in the modern direction of the Ruparelia Group. He played a pivotal role in revitalizing key arms of the family business, including Speke Group of Hotels, Kampala Parents School, and Victoria University.
According to a statement from police released Saturday morning, the accident occurred at approximately 1:54 AM, and Rajiv died at the scene after his Nissan GTR (registration UAT 638L) crashed and burst into flames in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
Rajiv’s passing has sent shockwaves through Uganda’s business community and beyond, as tributes continue to pour in for a young entrepreneur remembered for his passion, leadership, and energetic vision for Uganda’s private sector.
