President Museveni Commissions Cassava Processing Plant in Nakasongola, Urges Support for Agro-Industrial Growth
While en route to a public rally in Nakasongola Town, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made a key stop to commission Pura Organic Agro Tech Limited, a new cassava processing factory poised to transform Uganda’s agro-industrial landscape.

The factory will produce cassava starch—an essential input for industries such as pharmaceuticals, which currently depend heavily on imports. “Medicines remain expensive partly because we import starch from countries like India. This facility will help reduce those costs,” the President remarked.

Museveni praised Uganda’s cassava outgrowers for embracing this opportunity and called on local processors to add value by exploring indigenous, nutritious food varieties.
However, he expressed strong disappointment over acts of sabotage targeting such progress. He condemned individuals who vandalize electricity poles, leading to power disruptions and hampering industrial development. “These are enemies of progress, and we will deal with them accordingly,” he warned.
The commissioning marks a significant step in Uganda’s journey toward self-reliance and value addition in agriculture.
