OP-ED: NRM’s Big Turnout in Buganda Shows Strength as Opposition Weakens

Aspiring National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairman for Central Buganda Region, Kyeswa Hakim, has issued a passionate call to party delegates and supporters, urging them to stand firm ahead of the official expression of interest deadline set for June 27, 2025.

According to Hakim, delegates should not give in to political manipulation or inducements, calling for generational change and a renewed spirit of vigilance within the party structures.

“This mission is not about me; it is about us,” Hakim wrote. “Together, we have the power to shape history, but only if we remain vigilant.”

The ONC Digital Media boss emphasized that his campaign is not merely a personal ambition but a shared journey grounded in faith, loyalty to President Museveni’s leadership, and commitment to integrity.

“I am especially grateful for the steadfast leadership of our beloved National Chairman, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and our dear Mama Janet Museveni, whose unwavering dedication continues to inspire us all,” Hakim noted.

The youthful aspirant, who has been mobilizing in several districts across the Central Region, took the opportunity to warn delegates against being swayed by those he referred to as “old guards” seeking to influence the process through bribes.

“If the old guards, who have plundered enough, approach you with bribes, take back what is rightfully yours, but never forget the greater mission at hand,” he declared.

According to Hakim, the announcement of dates by the NRM Electoral Commission marks a turning point in the ongoing internal party elections, particularly for youth-driven reformers like himself. “Mark this date, comrades,” he said, referring to June 27, “for it is not just a procedural step, it is the beginning of a defining moment in our generational journey.”

He further challenged supporters to carry the message of hope even beyond his campaign. “Whether with me or without me, be the agents of hope in your districts. Stand bold, stand firm, and let no one silence the voice of progress.”

Kyeswa’s declaration comes at a time of intense mobilization within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the party prepares for the 2025 internal elections that will shape its leadership ahead of the 2026 general polls.

Dear NRM Delegates, Supporters, and Well-Wishers,
Warm greetings in the name of the Almighty God.

First and foremost, I thank the Lord for the precious gift of life and His continued guidance over our nation. I also extend my heartfelt appreciation to our beloved National Chairman, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and Mama Janet Kataaha Museveni, whose steadfast leadership remains a beacon of inspiration for all of us.

Comrades, our journey to contest for the position of NRM National Vice Chairman – Central Region began some time ago. From the very start, this mission has been driven not by personal ambition, but by your belief, your resilience, and your bold refusal to surrender to doubt and manipulation. I am humbled by the courage you have demonstrated, standing firm even as forces have attempted to derail our collective cause.

This week, the NRM Electoral Commission officially released the dates for expression of interest in various positions. I am pleased to inform you that our day is set for 27th June 2025.

Mark that date, not merely as a formal requirement, but as the spark of a generational turning point. This campaign is not about me. It is about us. It is about building a future where integrity, inclusion, and visionary leadership define the Central Region of our party and our country.

Let us not waver. If those who have long exploited the system attempt to buy your conscience, take back what is rightfully yours—but never forget the greater mission at hand. Our dignity, our struggle, and our future cannot be bought.

I urge you all: Do not rest. Whether with me or without me, remain the torchbearers of change in your districts. Let us rise as agents of hope, speak as voices of truth, and act with the conviction of those ready to shape the next chapter of the NRM.

The time is now. Stand bold. Stand firm. And let no one silence the voice of progress.
With gratitude and unwavering resolve,

Kyeswa Hakim
