Brigadier General Augustine Kyazze officially handed over command of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Defence General Depot (DGD) to Colonel Godfrey Mathias Abigaba during a ceremony at Magamaga Barracks in Mayuge District.

The event was presided over by Brig Gen Godwin Karugaba, Joint Staff – Logistics, who praised Brig Gen Kyazze for his outstanding leadership throughout his three-year tenure.

“This is a strategic UPDF unit that serves as the custodian of all logistics in the army,” Brig Gen Karugaba remarked. “It is sensitive and requires a disciplined and sober person. We commend Brig Gen Kyazze for managing it well. Uphold the standards and legacy you’ve built as you transition into your next chapter.”

He encouraged all logistics personnel to emulate Kyazze’s dedication and professionalism in order to uphold the UPDF’s reputation for excellence.

Turning to the incoming commander, Brig Gen Karugaba added, “You are a recent graduate of the National Defence College–Uganda and an experienced logistician. Think wisely, work hard, and apply your knowledge. The leadership did not choose you by mistake.”

In his farewell address, Brig Gen Kyazze expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the role, attributing his success to discipline and the supportive work environment at Magamaga.

Col Abigaba, in his acceptance remarks, thanked the UPDF leadership for their confidence in him. He described the appointment as a mark of trust and pledged to serve with diligence while maintaining the standards set by his predecessor.

Brig Gen Kyazze is expected to retire later this year.

The ceremony was attended by senior and junior officers, including Col Chris Kyanku, Commandant of the College of Logistics and Engineering; Col Katongole, Commandant of the School of Supply and Transport; departmental heads; and officers from Magamaga Barracks.
