Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 2 Infantry Division, has commenced a mobilisation tour of units under the 307 Infantry Brigade in Kanungu District.
The visit focuses on key security concerns, including the protection of national parks, border safety along the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), preparations for upcoming elections, and the promotion of financial literacy among troops.
While addressing officers at the 19 Battalion headquarters in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Maj Gen Muhanguzi highlighted the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding Uganda’s natural resources and boosting tourism.
“These are routine visits to check on the operational readiness of our troops in their areas of responsibility. They offer an opportunity for direct interaction with unit commanders and personnel, and provide on-spot assessments of how units are executing their tasks,” said Maj Gen Muhanguzi.
He applauded the soldiers for their dedication to securing Uganda’s western border and for their effective collaboration with agencies such as the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
He emphasised core military values, urging the troops to uphold patriotism, discipline, and self-sacrifice, while also maintaining physical health and protecting themselves against diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
He reminded the personnel of the UPDF’s constitutional duties and reiterated the force’s non-partisan position ahead of the upcoming primary and general elections.
The 307 Infantry Brigade is stationed in a strategically vital area that borders the Eastern DRC and encompasses key national assets such as Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Edward with the Rweshama fishing zone, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, aerodromes and various industrial installations, all of which play a significant role in the country’s economic growth.
Maj Gen Muhanguzi is also scheduled to engage with personnel from 23 Battalion and conclude his tour at the Mburamizi Brigade headquarters, where he will hold discussions with brigade staff and commanders.
