Mbarara City Mayoral Aspirant Seth Murari Gains Ground Ahead Of NRM Primaries, Promises People-Centered Leadership

As the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) prepares for its mayoral primaries on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Mbarara City Mayoral aspirant Seth Murari has become a house hold name as a rising political figure and dynamic community leader.

Murari is rapidly gaining recognition as the candidate of the people, especially among the youth, informal workers, and sports communities.

Despite not having held formal political office, Murari’s record speaks volumes. He is best known for his proactive role in community empowerment, particularly through sports initiatives and youth development programs.

His consistent, hands-on approach to solving local problems has made him a respected figure among Mbarara’s young population, who see his mayoral bid as an opportunity to usher in a fresh era of leadership.

“I’m confident about the upcoming primaries, I’m ready to elevate Mbarara City and bring fresh, people-centred leadership.” he said recently.

His confidence is backed by a long trail of impactful work, including his tenure at the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) as a sports coordinator, where he spearheaded youth mobilization efforts that reignited enthusiasm for sports participation.

Murari’s reputation is grounded not only in policy discussions but in action. Earlier this year, he organized a symbolic football match between the Mbarara Taxi Operators and the Garage Operators Association — a creative step toward unity and grassroots engagement.

Held at Global High School playgrounds on May 3, 2025, and officiated by Murari himself, the event sent a clear message: leadership must begin with listening and inclusion.

“Before we talk politics, let’s talk people. These men and women fix our cars, drive us to work, and keep this city alive. Leadership must come to them, not the other way around.” he noted.

His belief that sports can bridge ethnic and economic divides, reduce crime, and stimulate economic opportunity has become a cornerstone of his campaign.

With a campaign slogan of “Taking Action, Achieving Results,” Murari is pushing for policies that address Mbarara’s most pressing needs, job creation, inclusive urban planning, informal sector empowerment, and revitalized public infrastructure. He envisions building or renovating sports grounds in every division to serve as safe spaces for youth innovation, cultural activities, and community bonding.

Murari’s ambitions extend to turning Mbarara into a regional hub for sports and urban transformation. “Cities like Arua, Gulu, and Masaka are gaining visibility through football. Why not Mbarara?” he challenged.

By positioning the city as a sports powerhouse, he believes it will attract both national attention and local investment, benefiting small businesses and service providers alike.

Beyond sports, his focus on mental and physical health through accessible public spaces aligns with broader efforts to reduce pressure on healthcare services.

“A football ground can do what a prison cell can’t, it inspires,” Murari passionately explained. “Let’s invest in prevention, not just punishment.” His crime-prevention message is grounded in empowerment, not enforcement.

As we speak, thousands of Mbarara residents view Seth Murari not just as a candidate, but as a movement. His ability to unite communities, advocate for inclusion, and lead through example has made his campaign feel less like politics and more like purpose.

“This is not about one man,” he told a gathering recently. “It’s about building a city that works for all of us. Let’s kick off a new era for Mbarara — together.”
