Buganda Ku Museveni: Minister Haruna Kasolo Leads Massive NRM Mobilisation Rally In Mukono, Calls On Voters To Back Museveni, Party Flag Bearers Ahead Of 2026 Elections

Mukono, Uganda – Thousands of NRM supporters and leaders on Sunday thronged Kiyunga Muslims Primary School Playgrounds in Kyampisi Sub-county for the Buganda Ku Museveni mobilization rally.

The event was spearheaded by Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, the newly elected NRM CEC Vice Chairman for Buganda Region, together with district and regional leaders.

The rally, one of several being held across Buganda, was organized to rally grassroots support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its National Chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Kasolo, the State Minister of Microfinance, said that the NRM government still has a lot more services in the pipeline for the people of Uganda.

He appealed to the people of Mukono to support and vote for NRM leaders, noting that government programs can only be effectively delivered through a strong partnership between the people and the ruling party.

“The NRM government has transformed lives through programs like Emyooga, PDM, and Women Empowerment initiatives. But this is just the beginning—there is more coming. For these programs to reach every home, every village, and every parish, you must trust and vote for NRM leaders who will work hand in hand with President Museveni to bring services closer to you,” Hon. Kasolo said.

Hajji Haruna Ssemakula, the NRM District Chairperson, pointed to the government’s ongoing empowerment initiatives.

He noted that women in Mukono have benefited from UGX 1.5 billion under the Uganda Women Empowerment Programme (UWEP) and UGX 22.63 billion through the Parish Development Model (PDM).

“We thank the Government of Uganda under the guidance of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for empowering Ugandans to improve livelihoods,” Ssemakula said.

He however appealed for urgent action on the lack of electricity in Mpunge Sub-county, which he said continues to hinder development.

Kyeswa Hakim, the NRM District Publicity Secretary and Head of Digital Media at the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), said it was “ashaming” that parts of Mukono, despite being in the Kampala Metropolitan area, still lacked electricity.

“Presidential pledges should be respected because voters don’t forget. People in Mukono did not abandon President Museveni; they were only diverted by small issues. As leaders, we must fix those gaps,” Kyeswa emphasized.

He also lamented poor road infrastructure in the area, attributing it to opposition dominance.

“You gave them five years, and you have seen their incompetence. They cannot deliver. Let us now join hands and rally behind President Museveni and the NRM government for better services,” he told the gathering.

Minister Nankabirwa’s Assurances

In her keynote address, Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, who was the guest of honour, acknowledged service delivery gaps but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfill presidential pledges.

She attributed Mukono’s rejection of President Museveni in 2021 to the influence of political opportunists.

“How do you leave where food is being served and go to where it is still being prepared?” she asked, cautioning residents against being misled by the opposition.

Nankabirwa reassured residents of ongoing rural electrification projects in Mukono, including Nagwejje and Seeta-Mpunge, where poles have already been erected.

“I want to assure you that very soon, there will be light,” she said.

She also reminded the audience that President Museveni values Buganda, pointing to the appointment of over 14 ministers from the region, including Hon. Haruna Kasolo (Microfinance), Hon. Aisha Ssekindi (Water), Hon. Amos Lugolobi (Finance) and herself.

“No opposition MP will ever bring government programs to the people, because they don’t even sit in the caucuses where key decisions are made,” she added, urging Mukono voters to stand firmly with NRM.

The event attracted a strong contingent of NRM leaders and flag bearers from Mukono and the surrounding districts. Among them were Eng. Robert Kafeero Ssekitooleko, the NRM flag bearer for Nakifuma County; Hon. Margret Nakavubu, Woman MP for Mukono District; Hon. Kintu Tadeo, the NRM flag bearer for Mukono South; Hon. Ronald Kibuule of Mukono North; Hon. Daisy Sonko of Mukono Municipality; and Francis Mukoome Lukooya, the NRM District Chairperson flag bearer.

The event also drew participation from leaders beyond Mukono, including Hon. Robert Migadde Ndugwa, MP for Buvuma District; Hon. Kirabo Agnes Nantongo, the NRM flag bearer for Luwero District; Hon. Dr. Michael Bukenya Yiga, MP for Bukuya in Kasanda District; and Hon. Enos Asiimwe, MP for Kabula County in Lyantonde District, among others.
