President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been officially cleared for presidential nomination by Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC), with his nomination rally scheduled for Tuesday, 23 September 2025 at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds (Independence Grounds).

The EC announced on Friday that Museveni, chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), along with several other aspirants who met the legal threshold of signatures, will formally be nominated.

Under the legal requirements, presidential candidates must support their nomination with signatures from at least 100 registered voters in at least two‐thirds of Uganda’s districts and in that regard, the NRM Secretariat submitted over 2.2 million signatures in support of Museveni to the Electoral Commission, far exceeding the legal requirement.

The Secretary General of the NRM, Richard Todwong, hailed the massive signatures as a strong show of support.

“We are taking more than two million signatures to the National Electoral Commission in fulfilment of one of the requirements for our chairman and flag bearer to be nominated. The more than two million signatures are already confirmed votes for the NRM party.”

He added that Museveni’s continued leadership symbolises stability and progress.

“We have been transforming Uganda for all these years, and we are continuing with our programs. After nominations, we shall have a launch for our manifesto, and you will hear all the promises in the new term.” Todwong told the media on Saturday.

According to Organisers of the event, after being nominated, Museveni will address supporters at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on the nomination day.

Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde, the party’s Director of Mobilisation, called on Ugandans to rally behind their candidate.

“Tuesday 23 September 2025 is a historic and big day for the NRM family and for Uganda. We are inviting all supporters to come to Kololo in their thousands to stand with our Chairman as he is officially nominated. This is not just a political event, it is a celebration of our unity, discipline and commitment to protect the gains we have made.” Sseninde said while addressing the media at the party secretariat in Kyadondo.

On the day of the nomination, thousands of NRM supporters and Bazzukulu from across the country are expected to fill Kololo, turning the ceremonial grounds into a sea of yellow. The party says the massive turnout will reflect Museveni’s unmatched grassroots support and the enduring appeal of the NRM brand.

As preparations intensify, Todwong and Sseninde are spearheading nationwide mobilisation, ensuring logistics, security, and communications are in place to deliver a colourful and powerful show of strength.

Analysts say the nomination marks the beginning of a high‐stakes election season, with the NRM determined to demonstrate Museveni’s dominance both within the party and across the national political landscape.
