Veteran legislator Medard Lubega Sseggona has said he holds no bitterness after the National Unity Platform (NUP) dropped him as its flag bearer for Busiro East in favor of musician-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga.

“In their own assessment, I may not have played well, but I have no bitterness, no anger, and no pain. From the bottom of my heart, I am at peace,” Sseggona told media on Tuesday evening.

Sseggona, a founding member of NUP and prominent lawyer, was replaced by Walukagga, the Kadongo Kamu singer and current Chairperson of Kyengera Town Council, who will now carry the party card for Busiro East.

The 51-year-old MP, first elected in 2011, said he respected the party’s decision and would not contest it.

“The party has given the card to someone else, and that is okay. Decisions were made soberly, and I cannot appeal against them. I remain loyal to my party,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Sseggona noted that Busiro East voters have always set high expectations for their representatives.
“From Abbey Mukwaya to the professionals who followed, they have always demanded excellence — and I have served with that in mind,” he said.

Though losing the endorsement, Sseggona signaled he will remain politically active.
“Whatever went wrong, I leave it to God and ask you to pray for Uganda. Tomorrow, I return to my constituents to continue engaging them, because stakeholders are many,” he added.
