Business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the Chairman of Ruparelia Group, has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to Uganda’s tourism and hospitality industry.
The recognition was presented to him on September 27, 2025, during the national commemoration of World Tourism Day held in Arua City, an event graced by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja as the chief guest.

A long-time advocate of wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism, Dr. Sudhir received a golden flamingo award, a symbol of his unwavering commitment to protecting Uganda’s natural treasures while positioning the country as a leading global travel destination.

The colourful ceremony, hosted at the scenic Arua City Golf Course, attracted government officials, international partners, tourism stakeholders, and local communities. The celebrations were held under the global 2025 theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
Prime Minister Nabbanja applauded the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, alongside its agencies, for their dedication to developing the tourism sector. She also lauded private investors like Dr. Sudhir, whose enterprises have had a lasting impact on Uganda’s economy.
“Tourism is one of the pillars of Uganda’s development, and the private sector has been at the centre of this growth. Investors like Dr Sudhir have not only boosted hospitality but also promoted wildlife conservation and community empowerment,” Nabbanja said.
Dr. Sudhir’s recognition follows decades of strategic investment in hospitality, conservation, and tourism infrastructure. His initiatives have rejuvenated national parks, advanced eco-tourism projects, protected endangered species, and provided employment opportunities to local communities.
Through his visionary leadership, Uganda has gained increased global recognition as a must-visit destination, contributing significantly to economic growth and sustainable development.
With an influence that bridges both business and conservation, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia’s latest accolade reaffirms his position as a key figure in driving Uganda’s sustainable tourism agenda forward.
