Independent candidate Rahmah Najjagwe has been duly nominated to contest for the Lyantonde District Woman Member of Parliament seat, unveiling a five-point development agenda centered on education, agriculture, health, empowerment, and the informal sector.
Najjagwe, the youngest contender in the race, was nominated on Wednesday amid cheers from supporters who escorted her to the district nomination center. She said her decision to contest as an independent reflects her commitment to offer servant leadership rooted in transparency, inclusivity, and accountability.

“I am ready to serve my people selflessly, regardless of political party lines. My focus is on transforming Lyantonde through practical solutions that uplift households,” Najjagwe declared after her nomination.

In her five-point agenda, Najjagwe is pledging full focus on education and skilling through promoting access to bursaries and scholarships, supporting teachers’ SACCOs, as well as lobbying for a presidential skilling hub in Lyantonde.

On agriculture, Najjagwe pledges to promote commercialized farming through the distribution of seedlings, constructing dams, introducing a farmers’ fund, and ensuring every parish gets a tractor for mechanized farming.
She also intends to enhance drug supplies, supporting health workers’ SACCOs, organizing medical camps, and drilling boreholes across parishes, in Agenda 3 of the manifesto; packages under health and water.

Youth, Women, Elderly, and PWDs: Promoting economic inclusion through SACCOs, skilling programs, and the annual Najjagwe Cup sports initiative for youth engagement.
Informal Sector: Supporting traders, boda boda riders, and artisans with safety gear, training, and access to affordable loans.
Najjagwe chose a chair as her campaign symbol, representing stability and inclusive leadership. She urged residents to rally behind her to transform the district’s social and economic landscape.

Her nomination now sets the stage for a heated race that also includes NRM flag bearer Katushabe Doreen Birungi, wife to Maj Gen. James Birungi, and incumbent Hon. Pauline Kemirembe Kyaka, who is also returning in the race as an independent after losing out to Katushabe in the NRM flag race.
Others candidates including Hon. Deborah Rwaboogo and Hon. Kyamatondo Fridah are all returning as independents after losing in the July 17 primaries.
