The Ruparelia Foundation, the charitable branch of the Ruparelia Group, has launched 100 fully funded Master’s Degree scholarships in memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, the former Managing Director of Victoria University (VU). The initiative celebrates his enduring legacy of youth empowerment and educational transformation.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, during Victoria University’s 9th Graduation Ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The event was presided over by His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, who attended as Chief Guest.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, accompanied by his wife Ms. Jyotsna Ruparelia and Mr. Jay Sakaria, his son-in-law, unveiled the scholarships under the Ruparelia Foundation, an organization known for championing education and philanthropy across Uganda.

Targeting top achievers from the Class of 2025, the scholarships are designed to carry forward Rajiv’s vision of equipping Ugandan youth with the skills and knowledge to drive social and economic transformation.
“This initiative is not just about education—it is about preserving Rajiv’s vision,” said Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, Founder and Chairman of the Ruparelia Group. “He believed that empowering the youth through education was the greatest investment in Uganda’s future. Through these scholarships, his legacy will live on.”
During the ceremony, Prof. John Opuda-Asibo, the University Chancellor, led the gathering in a moment of silence in memory of Rajiv, describing him as “a visionary leader who championed innovation, hard work, and opportunity for all.”
“Rajiv believed in giving others a chance to succeed,” Prof. Opuda said. “He transformed Victoria University into a modern, digital-driven institution that focuses on producing employable graduates. His spirit will continue to guide this university.”
Prof. Lawrence Muganga, the Vice Chancellor, echoed similar sentiments, praising Rajiv for steering the university toward practical, skills-based education.

“Rajiv’s energy and passion for youth development pushed us to think differently. These scholarships are a continuation of his mission—to make quality education accessible to all,” Prof. Muganga noted.
In his address, the Kyabazinga of Busoga commended the Ruparelia Foundation’s consistent dedication to supporting education and national development.

“What the Ruparelia Foundation is doing is shaping Uganda’s future. These scholarships will change lives and uplift communities. I encourage the graduates to carry forward Rajiv’s values of excellence, service, and humility,” the Kyabazinga said.
He also praised Victoria University’s partnership with the Busoga Kingdom, noting that numerous students from the region have benefited from its scholarship programs.
Established in 2012, the Ruparelia Foundation has implemented numerous initiatives in education, healthcare, and environmental protection. The 100 Master’s scholarships mark another milestone in its ongoing mission to expand educational opportunities and nurture Uganda’s next generation of leaders.
Each scholarship will fully cover tuition and target graduates who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership qualities, and a commitment to community service.
The Foundation reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Victoria University’s goal of producing employable, innovative, and globally competitive graduates.
