Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)’s Border Internal Security team at Busia One Stop Border Point has apprehended a 25-year-old Sudanese national for possessing military uniforms without proper documentation.
According to David Mugarra, URA Customs Supervisor, Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) technology detected the concealed items on Tuesday morning during a routine baggage scan.

The suspect, Datrio David Baba Jeremiah, was traveling aboard a Bebeto Coaches bus entering Uganda from Kenya at around 3:00 a.m. “During the routine scanning process, officers detected suspicious items within the suspect’s luggage. Further image analysis and physical inspection revealed clothing resembling military attire, prompting immediate interception,” Mugarra said.

Upon inspection, 59 pieces of military uniforms were recovered. Both the items and the suspect were handed over to the Border Internal Security team for further investigation.
Military uniforms are classified as security-sensitive items and require authorization and clearance from the Ministries of Security and Defence before being imported or transported across borders.
The NII technology continues to play a vital role in detecting and deterring non-compliance, enhancing both revenue mobilization and the security of Uganda’s borders.
URA remains committed to working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to safeguard the nation’s borders, ensure compliance with customs regulations, and protect the safety of all Ugandans.
