Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary / Secretary to the Treasury has said plans are underway to expand and modernise Soroti Fruit Factory in partnership with a management firm from Ethiopia.
Ggoobi said the expansion project will cost about USD 30 million and will take a period of about two years to become operational once construction starts.

Ggoobi made the remarks today at Soroti Fruits Ltd, where he went to assess the performance of the factory on the directive of H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was accompanied by the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives Uganda Permanent Secretary, Lynette Bagonza, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Director Economic Affairs, Moses Kaggwa and Commissioners from both the Ministries of Finance and Trade.


Ggoobi said the factory is changing the destiny of the region in terms of processing and adding value. He thanked the partners from Ethiopia for helping to manage the factory more effectively and also transforming it to become more successful.

The Chief Commercial Officer, Soroti Fruits Ltd, TsegaMariam Tesfaye thanked H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Government of Uganda for the opportunity to work together to industrialise and transform the region.

The planned new factory will have advanced technology with an automatic bottling and packaging line, multi-fruit processing units and organic fertilizer and animal feeds production among others.
