Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held talks with His Excellency President Félix Tshisekedi at State House in Kinshasa on Saturday evening, marking a significant step in bilateral security cooperation between the neighboring nations.

The high-level discussions focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration and regional stability.

The Ugandan General met the DRC president a day after meeting with his counterpart, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) at the military headquarters.

These engagements underscore the growing military partnership between Kampala and Kinshasa.

Since its launch in November 2021, the ongoing Operation Shujaa, a joint UPDF-FARDC offensive against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) has achieved remarkable success in eastern DRC.

The operation has neutralized key rebel strongholds, restored security in previously volatile border areas, enabled the safe return of displaced communities, and revitalized economic activities and social services in liberated zones.

President Tshisekedi warmly received the Ugandan CDF, praising the UPDF’s critical contribution to the operation’s success.

Gen Kainerugaba reiterated Uganda’s commitment to the partnership.

This visit represents Gen Kainerugaba’s latest diplomatic effort to strengthen Uganda’s regional partnerships.

Gen Kainerugaba has recently engaged multiple African leaders to advance peace and stability initiatives across the African continent.
