The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has paid tribute to the late Brig Gen (Rtd) Ali Nasuru Izaga, describing him as a pivotal figure in restoring peace and security in Uganda, particularly in the West Nile region.
His message was delivered by Maj Gen Dick Olum, the chairman of the security supervisory mechanism in South Sudan, during the burial of the late Brig Izaga in Jabala Village, Gojuru Parish, Kuru Subcounty, Aringa County, Yumbe District.

“We join the family, relatives and friends at this difficult moment to mourn a comrade whom we shall always remember,” Gen Kainerugaba said.

He described the late officer as a historical leader whose dedication, discipline and resilience earned him respect from senior commanders, colleagues and junior officers.

His son, Apangu Ali, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, H.E. Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and Gen Kainerugaba for the support offered to the late during his service and to the family after his passing.

He noted that the retired officer mentored many young people who have since taken up roles in and outside the force.
The burial was attended by UPDF generals, senior officers, Members of Parliament, clergy, political leaders, cultural leaders and other dignitaries.
