Engineer Jonard Asiimwe has officially joined the race for the position of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, marking a decisive step in reshaping the party’s leadership landscape.
After weeks of speculation, Eng. Asimwe confirmed his candidature today by paying the official nomination fees and fulfilling the majority of the party’s requirements. The announcement has been met with widespread excitement among NRM supporters, particularly in the Western region, where Asimwe enjoys significant grassroots support.

“This is not just a campaign. It’s a movement for inclusive development, servant leadership, and a renewed focus on the people,” Eng. Asimwe stated in his declaration speech.
With a solid background in engineering, oil and gas, infrastructure, and technology, Eng. Asimwe brings a wealth of experience to the political arena. He is credited with facilitating the creation of over 15,000 jobs within Uganda’s oil and gas sector, a critical boost to the country’s economy and youth employment.
His contributions to infrastructure include key road upgrades, as well as improvements to regional stadiums and airports, enhancing connectivity and service delivery in underserved areas.
In the field of Information Technology, Asimwe is known for his forward-thinking initiatives, most notably the launch of Space Clubs in schools across the country. These clubs aim to introduce young learners to science, digital innovation, and space exploration, building a technologically literate generation ready for the future.
Asimwe’s leadership ideologies are also defined by his commitment to education and youth development. He has personally sponsored over 300 students in top schools and universities, helping many achieve their academic and professional dreams.
His ideological orientation and leadership capacity-building programs have produced a new wave of patriotic and responsible youth leaders, ready to take Uganda forward.
Beyond his technical and policy contributions, Eng. Asimwe is also a celebrated figure in Ugandan sports. He is a proud sponsor of several football clubs including:
