President William Ruto has ordered the construction of 900 Police stations across the country to improve service delivery.
The Head of State announced that the stations will be constructed within the next two years while speaking on Tuesday, December 2, during the unveiling of the Jukwaa la Usalama Report, at State House, Nairobi, where he hosted more than 15,000 chiefs and assistant chiefs.

He noted that some police stations in the country are situated too far from the communities they serve, while others have not been built at all.

“We have Police stations that have not been built. Other police stations are located far away from some locations, even when the chiefs have a function, trying to move people from one place to another, it is far. So, we have agreed that we will construct 900 Police stations in the next two years.”
300 Police stations to be constructed through Affordable Housing
According to him, a total of 300 stations will be constructed through the Affordable Housing program, while another 300 will be set up through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF).
President Ruto further announced that the remaining 300 will be constructed by the national government through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. The government will also operationalise 24 new sub-counties, 88 divisions, 318 locations and 675 sub-locations.
“Through our housing program we will build 300. I will sit down with the ministry and the NGCDF chairman to help us build 300 police stations, as the law allows. The national government through the Ministry of Interior we will build 300 Police stations.”
At the same time, the Head of State directed the promotion of chiefs and assistant chiefs who have successfully completed their respective training programs.
Chiefs to be promoted from July 2026
He stated that the government will allocate a budget to facilitate the promotion of ranks, effective from July 1, 2026.
The President further said that the Constables aged 50 and above will also be promoted before retirement as part of a farewell package.
He stated that there will be no transfers of constables within a year, noting that this will particularly benefit officers returning from maternity leave.
The President stressed on the need for chiefs and assistant chiefs to undergo training to enable them to perform their duties effectively at the grassroots level.

To enhance accountability and efficiency at the community level, Ruto said tablets will be issued to all chiefs. More than 3,000 new cars will also be made available to boost their mobility.
“Further, our more than 106,000 village elders across the country will be recognised, and put on a monthly stipend of Ksh3,000 beginning July 1, 2026,” he added.
92 Police stations set up nationwide
Ruto’s announcement comes after the government earlier this year designated 92 new police stations across the country.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja in a Gazette notice No. 14272 dated September 8, 2025, said that the move was to take effect immediately under the National Police Service Act (Cap. 84).
According to the notice, the new stations, spread across all regions, will help in improving law enforcement coverage, reducing response times, and enhancing public safety.
They include facilities in border areas, transport hubs, airports, and rail stations, as well as in rural and urban counties.
“The establishments designated in the schedule are hereby recognized as Police Stations for the purpose of the Act,” read the Gazette notice.
The newly gazetted stations stretch from Liboi in Garissa County to Kisumu Railport, covering key Sub-Counties such in Turkana East, Laikipia, Kajiado, Machakos, and Marsabit.
