President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged rural households to embrace modern farming as a pathway to wealth creation, announcing a new government initiative to support large-scale farmers.
Speaking at a massive rally in Katwe Village, Mayuge Town Council, he revealed plans to establish a national fund to purchase fertilizers and fully construct fishponds for communities that cannot afford them.
“This initiative is aimed at boosting productivity and accelerating wealth creation, especially in rural areas where households have the land and potential but lack the capital to modernize agriculture,” he said.

“We are starting a fund to purchase fertilizers for those farming on a large scale. The government will also build ponds because you’re not in position to do so yourselves—it’s an expensive venture.”
President Museveni urged families to adopt the four-acre model—coffee, fruits, pasture, food crops, alongside poultry, piggery, or fish farming—to ensure steady household income.
During the same rally, the President reaffirmed that his directive scrapping the 5 percent waste-management deduction previously imposed on sugarcane farmers by millers still stands, calling the levy unfair. He also assured farmers that weighbridges used in sugarcane transport remain operational and that they should have no concerns.
Museveni recalled that 52 years ago he had been in the area fighting in the forests of Kityerera.
He remembered comrades lost during the struggle and highlighted that the NRM’s contributions to Uganda have included restoring peace, enabling development, and creating opportunities for wealth.
President Museveni also updated supporters on ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Musita–Mayuge–Busia road, noting that remaining sections like Iganga–Bwanda will be completed. He highlighted gaps in education and health facilities, with new secondary schools and health centre upgrades underway to serve underserved areas.
He emphasized that jobs are generated from wealth created in agriculture and industry, noting that industries have created 1.3 million jobs compared to 480,000 by government. He urged supporters to confidently explain that the NRM has delivered peace, development, wealth creation, and employment.
The First Lady, Maama Janet, thanked God for Uganda’s transformation and urged the people of Mayuge to vote for the NRM, while district leaders applauded government support for roads, health centres, livelihood programs, and requested further investments such as an industrial park for Busoga and a district hospital for Mayuge.
Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, the First National Vice Chairperson of NRM, urged residents to support the party. “I am requesting for votes from NRM members and even those who are not NRM members. Give us your votes and we shall continue keeping the peace. That is what I wanted to tell you,” he said.
He added, “We must work together as Ugandans, and we must respect each other. Voting will come and go, but your neighbour will remain your neighbour. You will continue living with one another. So please, respect the people of Uganda.”
