The State Minister for Microfinance and NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region, Hon. Hajji Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, today officiated the pass-out ceremony of 375 young patriots—all medical students—who successfully completed a rigorous 7-day patriotism course at Masaka School of Comprehensive Nursing.
In a stirring address to the graduates, Minister Kasolo commended their dedication and laid out a visionary path for the role of patriotism in Uganda’s future.
The minister began by congratulating the cohort on their successful completion of the training. He then made a significant policy recommendation, urging that patriotism education be integrated into the national curriculum as a mandatory program, rather than an optional co-curricular activity.
He went a step further, proposing that a certificate of completion for patriotism training should be a prerequisite for anyone seeking deployment within the government.
Responding to concerns raised at the event, Minister Kasolo directly addressed the issue of inadequate infrastructure at the institution, a point highlighted by the Deputy Principal Mr Acheda Daniel. He pledged his commitment to engage all relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to this challenge, which has historically hindered student enrollment.
His core message to the graduates was a call to action grounded in unity and integrity. Minister Kasolo exhorted the young patriots to love one another, shun sectarianism, and actively reject corruption. He emphasized that true patriotism means prioritizing Uganda above all else, specifically urging the future medical professionals to “prioritize the health of the people before money.”
In his concluding remarks, the minister charged the graduates to become ambassadors of the NRM’s core principles. He instructed them to consistently champion Pan-Africanism, Democracy, and Socio-economic transformation in their personal and professional lives.
The ceremony marks a continued effort by the government to instil core national values in the next generation of Ugandan professionals.
