The Ruparelia Group of Companies, one of Uganda’s most influential privately-owned conglomerates, continues to shape the country’s economic landscape while expanding its footprint internationally.
Founded and led by Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s most prominent entrepreneurs, Ruparelia Group operates across diverse sectors including education, hospitality, insurance, construction, agriculture, media and real estate.

Born in Uganda but raised in business through ventures he established as a young man in England, Sudhir returned to Uganda in the 1980s at a time of renewed political and economic stability. What began as modest investments has since grown into a multi-billion-dollar business empire that employs thousands of Ugandans and serves millions through its services.
A Portfolio Of Subsidiary companies
As of June 2024, the Ruparelia Group’s portfolio spans more than 20 subsidiaries. Notable among them are Meera Investments Limited, the real estate arm behind Kampala’s modern skylines, Kabira Country Club, Speke Resort Munyonyo, and Speke Apartments, which have set standards in hospitality.
In education, the Group runs prestigious institutions including Kampala Parents’ School, Kampala International School Uganda (KISU), Delhi Public International School, and Victoria University, which serve both Ugandan and international students. The conglomerate also owns Goldstar Insurance, Premier Recruitment, Vcon Construction, and Sanyu FM 88.2, a pioneer in Uganda’s radio broadcasting.
In agriculture, through Premier Roses Limited and Rosebud Limited, the Group is a leading player in floriculture, exporting roses from Entebbe to global markets, thereby generating vital foreign exchange for Uganda.
Regional And Global Reach
Beyond Uganda, the Ruparelia Group has extended its investments to Rwanda, South Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. These international operations cement its role as a key player in regional business integration and global trade.
The Group is also driving major infrastructural projects that align with Uganda’s growth ambitions. Among them is the recently launched Pearl Business Park, a planned upscale development on 18 acres in Kampala, featuring a shopping mall, a five-star hotel, and a modern hospital.
Similarly, the Speke Resort Convention Centre, a 4,400-seater facility at Munyonyo, was the venue of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77+China summits in January 2024, hosting over 70 heads of state and delegations from 120 countries.
Other notable real estate ventures include Arie Towers, a 14-story high-rise in Nakasero, and Paradise Island Resort on Lake Victoria, which is poised to become one of East Africa’s most unique luxury destinations.
An Engine Powering Uganda’s Growth
Economists argue that Ruparelia Group’s investments not only drive employment but also generate ripple effects across Uganda’s economy. From construction workers and hotel staff to teachers and farmers, thousands of Ugandans find livelihoods directly and indirectly through Sudhir’s enterprises. Suppliers, contractors, and service providers also benefit from reliable demand created by the Group’s wide-ranging operations.
Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia’s vision goes beyond profit. With a keen eye on community development, his ventures are designed to combine international standards with local opportunities, positioning Ruparelia Group as a cornerstone of Uganda’s economic resilience.
While Uganda is navigating the challenges of rapid urbanization, youth unemployment and global competition, Ruparelia Group stands out not only as a conglomerate but as a national engine of opportunity, stability and growth.
