Uganda Police: Multiple Injured In NUP Convoy Accident On Kalagi–Kayunga Road

On 29 September 2025, a serious road traffic accident occurred on the Kalagi to Kayunga Road near Namyoya Village.

The incident involved motorcycles and vehicles escorting the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Honourable Kyagulanyi Sentamu.

Preliminary findings indicate that a motorcycle in the convoy, traveling at high speed, collided with a vehicle from behind, setting off a chain reaction where several motorcycles collided with each other. Subsequently, a white Mitsubishi vehicle, registration number UAZ 064H, bearing images of the candidate, also collided with the motorcycles involved.

Several individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to St. Francis Naggalama Hospital for medical treatment. Some with minor injuries left the scene with their motorcycles.

The accident incident was registered at Naggalama Police Station. The vehicles involved include the Mitsubishi UAZ 064H and motorcycles with registration numbers UFQ 569H, UGH 892B, UEK 351T, UFQ 250Q, among others, all of which towed to the main station.

The injured persons identified so far, mostly motorcycle riders or passengers, are:

Kewanza Bashir, 27 years, passenger

Kakaire Bashir, 35 years

Ssepereza Musa, 40 years, passenger

Kisomba Michael, 28 years, motorcycle rider from Nansana

Ssewaya Eric, 23 years, motorcycle rider

Mutagubya Robert, 24 years, motorcycle rider

The current status of the casualties is as follows:

Kewanza Bashir sustained multiple injuries including a maxillary fracture.

Kakaire Bashir suffered multiple injuries and wounds.

Ssepereza Musa suffered multiple injuries and a fracture to the right leg. Mutagubya Robert also sustained multiple injuries, wounds, and a fracture. These three were referred to Mulago Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

Kisomba Michael incurred multiple injuries, a fracture on the right leg, and chest pain, and remains admitted at St. Francis Hospital.

Ssewaya Eric sustained multiple injuries and is still admitted at St. Francis Hospital Naggalama.

Initial investigations suggest reckless riding and driving as the cause of the accident. Police officers visited the scene, and three motorcycles along with one vehicle have been towed to Naggalama police yard for further inspection. Investigations are ongoing.

It was earlier reported that boards displaying campaign photos of Kyagulanyi Robert had been placed in the middle of the road, causing obstruction to traffic and other road users.

We issue a strong warning to all political actors and their entourages to strictly observe traffic laws. Irresponsible use of the roads, as demonstrated in this incident that caused multiple injuries, will not be tolerated. The Police will enforce strict measures to prevent such conduct and ensure adherence to the law

Political actors are urged to comply fully with traffic regulations to avoid similar incidents in the future.
