A three-day high-level security meeting between Uganda and Rwanda is underway in Kabale District, bringing together senior military officials from both countries.

Led by Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Brig. Gen. Justus Majambere Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), the discussions focus on strengthening cross-border cooperation, tackling crime, sharing intelligence, and combating terrorism.

This is the sixth such meeting, credited with reducing cattle theft, smuggling, and illegal crossings through joint patrols. Kabale RDC, Maj. Godfrey Katamba (Rtd.) has urged for the inclusion of civil leaders, citing social and economic border issues.

The talks come against the backdrop of strained relations from 2019, when Rwanda closed the border until its reopening in 2022. The continued dialogue is seen as a step toward stronger ties and lasting peace.
