Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force has officially bid farewell to three senior directors selected to attend the prestigious Grade One Course at the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U).
Presiding over the handover ceremony at Air Force Headquarters, the Chief of Staff – Air Force, Brig Gen David Gonyi, commended the officers for their distinguished service. He described their selection as both a personal achievement and a reflection of the UPDF’s strategic focus on grooming future leaders.

The outgoing directors are from the Political Commissariat, Legal Services, and Logistics directorates.

Brig Gen Gonyi said the officers’ admission to NDC-U marks a key step in the UPDF’s pursuit of strategic professionalism. Quoting the Commander-in-Chief, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, he reminded the gathering: “The army must be a people’s army; ideologically alert, disciplined, and educated.”
Col Niwagira, Director of Political Commissariat, was praised for reinforcing the ideological foundation of the Air Force. Under his leadership, the directorate’s mission was realigned to ensure personnel remained ideologically grounded and politically conscious.
Col Genavivian Ganza, Director of Legal Services, was recognised for his steadfast commitment to military justice and legal oversight. Brig Gen Gonyi noted his key contributions in strategic legal planning, international humanitarian law compliance, and contract and operational reviews.
Col Kamwesiga, Director of Logistics, was lauded for transforming Air Force logistics through cost-effective and innovative strategies. His work in fuel management built a critical reserve that strengthened the Air Force’s operational resilience.
The ceremony was attended by directors and departmental heads from Air Force Headquarters.
