The Deputy Commandant of the Military Police Brigade, Brigadier General Christopher Columbus Tumwiine, has today called on troops to remain loyal and obedient in serving their motherland, Uganda. He made this appeal while addressing officers and men at Makindye Military Barracks.
Brig Gen Tumwiine reminded troops that being loyal means obeying instructions from the top leadership, including the President and Commander-in-Chief of UPDF H.E Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the entire command structure.

He also cautioned them against getting involved in global politics, which he said hindered Africa’s development by creating violence and confusing young people into hating their own leaders.

“As soldiers, you are the custodians of peace, and it is your key mandate,” he said.

“Peace brings prosperity and development. During peace time, welfare increases, and a soldier can ably manage his finances to ensure he creates income-generating ventures, a good home, education of children, and all these ventures bring happiness during retirement,” he said.

The Brigadier General emphasized the importance of observing all the seven elements of human security (food, environmental, health, economic, personal, community, and political security) that collectively impact Uganda’s national security.
He also warned against countries that pose a threat to developing African countries, influencing various spheres such as the economy, politics, and technology, which tends to cause unrest.
“Political seasons come with a lot of ideological motivation, cyber security accusations, and diversities of accusations targeting security, but we need to remain professional in performing our duties and putting our country first,” he said.
Brig Gen Tumwiine urged troops to guard Uganda’s gains and not allow the country to backslide. “Through good leadership and vision, Uganda is seen as an example of a peaceful state in the region,” he added.
The Brigadier General’s message was seen as a call to action for the troops to remain vigilant and committed to their duties, ensuring the continued peace and stability of Uganda.
