President Yoweri Museveni has communicated with Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo, urging him to intervene and prevent the sale of Muslim property.
The president was alerted to the issue by Mufti Mubajje, who highlighted the ongoing dispute surrounding the sale of certain Muslim properties. Initially, Museveni had relied on the judiciary to address the matter.

In a letter dated November 29, 2023, President Museveni expressed his surprise at the revelation that among the properties slated for sale is the National Mosque at Old Kampala. He questioned the rationale behind allowing such a significant institution to be sold and emphasized the need for a review to restore order.
President Museveni remarked, “If there is no law protecting institutions of Worship, then common sense is there.” He has directed Chief Justice Owiny Dollo to thoroughly investigate the matter, emphasizing the restoration of sanity.
The president added that instances of misconduct and collusion alleged by Mufti Mubajje should also be examined. Museveni distanced the NRM ‘freedom fighters’ and the government from what he termed as “sick logic” associated with the situation.
