President Museveni engaged in a significant meeting with General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo Aka Hemetti, the formidable and renowned leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
On Wednesday, Dagalo, the former Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, paid a visit to Museveni in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District. The two leaders delved into extensive discussions focusing on Sudan’s ongoing peace process and strategies to quell the persistent conflicts in the country.
Dagalo, at the helm of RSF, orchestrated a coup in 2021 against a coalition of civilian and military leadership. However, a year and a half later, he appears dissatisfied with the military’s composition, expressing concerns about lingering loyalists impeding the nation’s democratic transition.
In April of this year, Sudan witnessed intense clashes between the army and Dagalo’s Rapid Support Forces, characterized as a power struggle for dominance.
Following the aftermath of the war, Dagalo advocated for a change in the army’s leadership, highlighting the challenges hindering progress towards establishing democracy.
