Ghana is set to revolutionize travel across the African continent with a groundbreaking policy slated for full implementation by the end of 2024 – visa-free entry for all African visitors.
- The government announced its commitment to ensuring visa-free for all Africans travelling into our country.
- Countries across Africa are realizing the importance of dismantling barriers that have long hindered intra-continental interactions.
- Currently, only five African countries provide visa-free entry for all African citizens
The announcement was made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the prestigious 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue held in Ghana, marking a pivotal moment in continental integration.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized the strategic importance of such policies, advocating for the unrestricted movement of people, goods and services as a catalyst for bolstering trade and driving economic advancement across Africa.
Addressing attendees, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the challenges many faced in obtaining visas for the event underscoring Ghana’s commitment to facilitating easier access. He revealed plans to streamline the visa process, aiming for seamless entry for all African travelers.
This move reflects a broader trend across the continent, with nations recognizing the imperative to break down longstanding barriers impeding intra-continental connectivity. From abolishing trade tariffs within sub-regions to the ambitious goal of eliminating visa requirements altogether, Africa is rapidly advancing towards greater cohesion and cooperation.
In a notable development, Ghana recently partnered with South Africa to introduce a visa-waiver scheme enabling citizens to traverse between the two nations without the encumbrance of visa formalities.
Currently, only a handful of African countries offer visa-free access to all African citizens but Ghana’s bold initiative signals a significant stride towards fostering unity and fostering a more interconnected Africa.
