Upon the gracious invitation of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzanian President, President Yoweri Museveni touched down in Zanzibar to partake in the commemorative 60th Anniversary Celebrations of the Zanzibar Revolution.
A warm reception awaited President Museveni at the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar, where he was greeted by Dr. Khalid Salum Mohammed, the Tanzanian Minister of Construction and Communications.
Joining in the welcome were Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Rtd. Col. Fred Mwesigye, accompanied by his deputy, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Muheesi, and Brigadier Ronald Bigirwa, the Defense Attaché at the Uganda High Commission in Tanzania.
Zanzibar, encompassing the renowned ‘Spice Islands,’ famed for their production of cloves, cinnamon, and black pepper, operates semi-autonomously within the Union, boasting its own governance led by Dr. Hussein Ali.
The upcoming festivities held special significance, drawing the participation of numerous dignitaries, including leaders from East Africa.
The vibrant celebration was slated to unfold at the Amani Stadium in Zanzibar, promising a colorful spectacle that would honor the historical legacy of the Zanzibar Revolution and unite leaders in a shared celebration of regional cooperation and camaraderie.
