The Director of Political Education – Land Forces and Coordinator of Tarehe Sita week in Namayingo district, Colonel Anatoli Nuwagira has commended the people of Namayingo and district leadership for their unwavering support and cooperation with the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces.
He attributed the success of the UPDF to the strategic partnership with the people.
Col Anatoli also urged the local community to engage in productive activities that will lead to socio-economic transformation.
The In-charge of Buyinga Health Centre IV, Charles Kulaba thanked the UPDF leadership for grooming well-disciplined and professional soldiers. “As a district, we have benefited a lot from you and we don’t take it for granted, you are indeed a Peoples’ Army,” Kulaba added.
The day started with the cleaning of Buyinga Health Centre IV, the market and the main streets of Namayingo Town Council.
The activity involved the Mayor Namayingo Town Council Mr. Ssebidde Hussein, District Police Commander ASP Talemwa Sam, UPDF Senior, junior officers and militants, and the Local community.
Colonel Justus Rukundo who led the donation of the life jackets urged the fishing community to desist from illegal fishing practices embrace legitimate fishing methods and also engage in other productive activities farming to improve their welfare.
The Mayor of Southern Division Mr. Naser Arsraf said they are delighted with what UPDF has done for the people of Busoga adding that this is a reflection that the UPDF is indeed professional. He advised the community to take good care of the donated life jackets from UPDF.
The Chairman Masese landing site Mr. Lumala Godfrey expressed gratitude to the UPDF for the donation and for extending the 43rd Tarehe Sita activities to his area.
The activities began in the morning with the general cleaning of Masese market and Masese Health Centre III and were attended by the Deputy Mayor Jinja City Mrs Kasana Mary, officials from fisheries and UPDF officers and militants among others.
In Kaliro District, Colonel Sadler Katono, the UPDF team leader, held a meeting with key stakeholders to prepare for the Tarehe Sita activities. The team checked on the ongoing medical camps in the district, where Colonel Katono gave words of hope and encouragement to the patients and assessed the overall well-being of the troops.
Colonel Katono cautioned the soldiers against promiscuity and appealed to them to be disciplined and observe the UPDF code of conduct.
In Namutumba District, the deputy Resident District Commissioner, Ms Ibaseret Josephine witnessed a football match between a select UPDF team and Namutumba team that saw UPDF win the match 2-1.
The winning team was awarded a trophy and medals while the runner-ups of Namutumba were equally awarded.
Col Ibrahim Keddi thanked the people of Namutumba for the support and cooperation they have shown during the Tarehe Sita activities in the district.
